About Chongqing Medical University

Chongqing Medical University (CQMU), founded in 1956, grew out of Shanghai First Medical College (now part of Fudan University). CQMU is now a comprehensive medical university with a diverse offering of Bachelor's, Master's, Doctoral and Postdoctoral programs.

Why CQMU

It is among the first group of universities approved by Ministry of Education in China to accept international students to study medicine in English. Since 2001, the university has accepted over 1,000 international students from over 30 countries and regions. The university is listed in World Directory of Medical Schools of WHO and recognized by ECFMG of USA.

What: Facts about CQMU

CQMU has developed an advanced research platform. This has led to a strong strength in research. For example, many faculty members have worked as leading scientists in over 500 different projects, winning over 110 different kinds of awards in science and technology. CQMU also operates a national engineering research center and a national bio-industry base experimental animal center.

CQMU currently has about 28,000 students enrolled. Among them, over 20,000 are undergraduates, about 5,000 are postgraduates and over 650 are international students.

CQMU has four key disciplines: infectious diseases, pediatrics, clinical laboratory diagnostics, and neurology, all of which are nationally ranked and are among the best programs offered in China.

CQMU hosts 19 colleges and departments, a graduate school, a life sciences institute, and a strong faculty team of 1400 professors and associate professors and over 200 PHD/MD supervisors.

CQMU offers 24 bachelor specialties including clinical laboratory medicine, pediatrics, and nursing, all of which are nationally ranked.

CQMU has 6 well-facilitated affiliated hospitals with 8900 beds and over 7,000,000 outpatients each year. 13 clinical specialties, including cardiovascular medicine, obstetrics, neonatology and children respiratory medicine are of national importance, representing the most advanced level of China in medical treatment, teaching, and scientific research.

CQMU has a leading platform for the HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound technology). Developed at our research center, the HIFU is the first large advanced piece of medical equipment natively produced in China. It has been exported to many countries in Europe and Asia.
